Keith Maiden - Artist Notes
Themes: Gender identity, depression
The muse is a man? Then why is there a queen symbol in the top left hand corner, he or she is on a throne which is a cheap garden chair, does this tell us about there standing in society maybe, there is a drink in the pocket of the chair, a cocktail (cocktail of pills)
He or she is holding a clowns gun with ‘bang’ is he /she contemplating suicide? On their left hand it says I hate you on there right hand it says I love you, does this person have issues with their identity, are they hiding behind the heavy make up of a clowns face, are they not comfortable with who they are, are they depressed, has society/ social media created them? What’s their story - you decide.
