Living on the South Wales coast, the inspiration for my sea paintings comes from the drama and excitement of the powerful storms that ravage the coast line. The colours and textures of the rocks, eroded by the motion of the tides, and often covered in lichen, are rich and varied. I aim to capture the moment of impact of the rushing waves against the rocky foreshore or cliff face, and the ensuing explosion of power and energy.
Texture and colour are an essential part of all my work whether abstract, or more figurative, and I enjoy experimenting with a wide variety of media. My sea paintings are mostly multiple layers of gesso and acrylic paint/ink to produce texture and depth of colour.
