The Lock-in

The Black Widow does her final dance of seduction, closing in on her unsuspecting victim. Temptation is everywhere with nowhere to go as the cellar door locks behind them...

The 'Last Order' Series

As the bell tolls for the Last Orderdecisions have to be made and people need to be paid. Drink up, its time to make your next move...”

A contemporary twist on the works of iconic Old Masters, my second series Last Ordercaptures an anxious mood at the bar as the night draws to a close. But beneath the whisky-soaked seduction is the story of a wicked, murderous plot based on the Old Testament story of Judith slaying Holofernes...

The legend goes that the General Holofernes threatened to destroy Judiths home, the city of Bethulia. The lecherous General so desired the beautiful widow, Judith who took advantage of his weakness. Helped by her maidservant Abra, our heroine Judith enters his tent that night and beheads the General after he has fallen asleep in a drunken stupor.

The scene is considered to be a representation of the Power of Womanand the origin of the femme fatale, a central motif within this series.

Judith Slaying Holofernes is a subject that inspired many Old Masters, in particular Caravaggio, whose haunting depiction is hailed as one of his greatest works. For the more astute viewer, hidden within one of the paintings of the series is a replica Caravaggio.

Equally, the series title is a play on DaVincis Last Supper, as our Generalslings back his chalice, we wonder whether he is suspicious of the impending betrayal.

I am a Welsh Figurative Artist specialising in Oil Painting. I began exhibiting my artwork fifteen years ago in local art galleries across South Wales and eventually found my feet in figurative oil painting.

Growing up in the Brecon Beacons, I was raised in the Welsh language by parents who instilled a fierce love of our heritage. Bedtime stories consisted of the tales of the Mabinogion and Owain Glyndŵr instead of Cinderella! Wales is renowned as the land of poets, musicians and artists and goes to the heart of our culture. I inherited my fascination for human anatomy from my mother, a physiotherapist. I can remember playing with her model skeleton as a child and would come home from walking the dogs with my pockets full of bones, feathers and the occasional pheasant.

After studying Spanish and Law at Swansea University and living in Colombia for a year it was on to Cardiff to pursue a career in human rights law. My early work was heavily influenced by the beautiful characters that I’ve come across on my travels and work. From the street art of Medellín, Colombia to the incredible faces of the locals in Old Havana, Cuba.

I implement techniques used by the Old Masters to depict contemporary Welsh characters. With Cardiff now a place I lovingly call home, it’s here that I take my inspiration. My paintings invite the viewer behind the scenes of some of Cardiff’s most iconic independent trades, capturing their authentic charm and showcasing our talent.
