On the 28th of May 1865, the Mimosa set sail from Liverpool Dock carrying 153 Welsh people in search of a new life. Their one-way journey took them to Patagonia, South America, where they sought to preserve their culture and language away from their changing homeland.

The journey took 2 months to complete, and they named their landing site Porth Madryn. This semi-arid desert proved fruitless for living. So, they walked across the plain to establish Rawson, the now capital of the Chubut Province, Argentina.

Journeys are exciting and sometimes necessary in life. Whether you are embarking on a new adventure, or leaving something or someone behind, breaking from a previous life, or even starting a new job or activity which is out of your comfort zone, this painting is a representation of those brave enough to not just sit back and moan about their predicament, but those who take that positive step and start their journey.

Happiness and success await many a victim, a troubled soul, and those courageous enough to take that one step towards a new life.
