Matthew Shutt

Matthew Shutt, an artist of Welsh heritage, has been immersed in realistic drawing from an early age. However, it was only after enrolling at the University of Huddersfield in 2007 that he discovered Hyperrealist painting. A chance encounter with a book by the legendary Photorealist 'Chuck Close' during his university days captivated him, sparking a fascination with the entire genre. Graduating with first-class honors in 2010, Matthew embarked on a full-time painting career. Unfortunately, issues with physical and mental health impeded his creative journey. It wasn't until 2017, when he gathered the confidence to reach out to 'the Bowery' in Leeds, that he secured his first exhibition, providing a significant platform for his budding art career.

Following the success of his inaugural exhibition, Matthew garnered attention from a respected international art magazine, which expressed interest in featuring his artwork. Marvel superheroes and everyday objects, particularly his cherished books prominently displayed in his studio, serve as recurring themes in his work and symbolise his dedication to the 'Realism Genre.' Describing his style, Matthew encapsulates it with passion and precision.
